Trip 6 is a little different than the rest. There is no linear itinerary to take so sites are grouped by state and are meant to be experienced in any order. The only thing with a progression is the one drawing attention to the transition from the eastern forests of Missouri through the various grasslands of Kansas and eastern Colorado to the western forests of Colorado's mountainous areas.

The focus of Trip 6 is on grassland ecosystems, interior wetlands and alpine tundra. Focus organisms will be native insects and a variety of animals and plants not native to North America. Photosynthesis and respiration will also be explored in more detail than in Trip 3.
