The focus of Trip 7 is on kelp forests, the open ocean/deep sea, the chaparral ecosystem and some of the major desert types in North America (Great Basin, Mojave and Colorado). Focus organisms include algae of many kinds, some of the more obscure animal phyla, "lower" chordates, egg-laying mammals and marsupials.
